Increasing the pace and scale of active forest management
Our Why
Forests in the Western US have experienced a dramatic increase in high severity wildfires. These events have resulted in increased risk to human life, property, and forest health, as well as ballooning fire suppression and rehabilitation costs. In 2022, the United States Forest Service identified the 1.72-million-acre Southwest Idaho Wildfire Crisis Landscape (SIL) as one of the nation’s most at-risk wildfire regions.
The Southwest Idaho All-Lands Partnership is a response to the challenges presented by modern wildfire. The group’s mission is to reduce catastrophic wildfire risk by pooling expertise and funding and creating a shared prioritization process for targeting fuel reduction treatments across the region on both private and public lands.
Building on other collaborative forest stewardship efforts in southwest Idaho, the partnership consists of diverse representatives from federal and state agencies, counties, fire protection districts, and conservation non-profits. The Southwest Idaho All-Lands Partnership will collaboratively develop and implement on-the-ground fuel-reduction projects across federal, state, and private forestlands, building regional partnerships to sustain these cross-boundary, forest health-enhancing treatments far into the future.
Our Core Goals
- Forest and Watershed Health: Improving overall forest resiliency and reducing the risk of undesirable effects of wildfire to aquatic and terrestrial habitat, drinking water sources, and ecological integrity.
- Community Safety: Reducing wildfire risks to safeguard communities and protect life, community infrastructure, property, and other values at risk.
- Public Expectation: Meeting the expectations of the American public, who look to land managers for proactive wildfire risk management.
- Collective Commitment: Sharing a commitment among group members to work together and deliver tangible achievements, on-the-ground treatments, and desirable outcomes.
